colfari I have listened to it two times now, and you really did a great job with all of it, transports you right back to the old days. It's quite amazing how you did that without explicitly covering the tracks, but by evoking their spirit with all the fond memories you have of playing these yourself. Chapeu!

about

Greetings!

Video Games is a personal love letter to some of the greatest video game music ever created.

To compose Volume 1, I thought about how I felt when I first played those games and how I oftentimes just stopped, simply to listen to the music more carefully. To achieve that, I thought I could just dive into the nostalgia I have for those games; how it feels when I remember them today but without playing them. That way, I can concentrate on how I remember those games instead of realizing that some might not have aged all too well. It’s comparable to when a well done remake comes out; it kinda looks like how you remember it but in reality, it looks, sounds and plays better now.

I also didn’t want to cover music that has already been covered hundreds of times, these are all original tracks. Covers are a bit more touchy in a sense, you have to try and fit into everyone’s souvenirs; how certain things should sound like, should it be more faithful to the original or be less faithful etc.
So, think of it as new music that would fit in those games, or as the soundtrack to a spiritual successor.. or maybe a cut track from an unfinished level or just some weird way to connect with my own personal nostalgia.

This is Volume 1, I’ll be ready for more if there is a demand for it. Please enjoy! (and share!)

PS: For now, it’s here on Bandcamp and you’ll find it on YouTube. I will find its way on all digital streaming platforms, again if the demand is there. Thank you all!

Matthieu Gauthier-Prud'homme (Above the Snow Line) has a distinctive, often dark, style of composing. Haunting melodies, cold synth sounds, post-industrial percussions and a love for piano & distortion.
